Mike Manos - heymikey

I've just received a message from heymikey's family in response to the newsletter mailed yesterday indicating that he passed away on Saturday, July 16th.

Mike Manos was a member of the bonsaiTALK forum since October 2002, and a frequent contributor of some 400 posts, last visiting as recently 1 week ago. His hundreds of posts on bonsaiTALK reflected his interest in bonsai as well as his wit and skill with Photoshop. He lived in the East Bay, near Oakland, CA.

Heymikey will certainly be missed. I don't have any more details at this time but I have inquired about services.

"If you are interested in making a donation, I am putting together a contribution to the Oakland GSBF Collection - North bonsai garden on behalf of heymikey.
Contact me for details"

I have posted below a few of Mikey's graphic creations. He left us with some 147 sketches, including some seriously wonderful virtuals, but the ones that really stand out in my mind are the eclectic collages that he used to punctuate his posts.

Please enjoy this collection of a few

"I read that same article in which it states all of the Bald Cypresses in Louisiana were originally grown in small bonsai pots to develop their knees and then they were transplanted into the swamps by the legendary cajun forester, Johnny Cypressseed." Also in that same article it recommends that if you grow this specie way up north (i.e. around Shreveport) that you should install Bald Cypress knee socks so they don't get a chill. Sorry, can't remember where I put that article.

re: Mike Manos

I don't normally post but this is extremely sad news.

A cheerful inconoclast who will leave an enormous void here and elsewhere.

My sincere condolences to his friends and family.

Tim

A great loss to the Bonsai community and I feel a personal loss. I will miss his humor and gentle spirit.

The virtual flags are certainly at half-mast at the BonsaiTalk.

This is a very sad day. Heymikey's voice was one of reason and humility. He could dispute styling opinions with tact and humor, without losing the emphasis on what is right. I thoroughly enjoyed his posts and sense of humor.

I will miss him, but I know he is still "on-line" with us all.

His family has my deepest sympathy.

Respectfully,

John

I can only repeat what everyone else has said. Condolences to his family and friends. Such a fine sense of humor will sorely be missed.

heyMikey has always been one of my favortie online pals. I never met the man in person, and really knew very little of who he was outside of a bonsai forum, but I loved his spirit and wit and kindness all the same. I will miss him very much.

My sincere condolences to his family and friends, online or otherwise.

I'll miss that guy, he always brought a laugh and a smile with him and shared the happiness with us. My prayers are with him and his family.

It is a sad day indeed.
