Hi Joanie, I have a nice article, but it hasn't got 500 words in it. I miss about 60 words. It's a very nice and very different article, so it would be sad that it is not enterable to the contest. Why is there a minimum length? regards Wessel

Wessel,
One more paragraph would do it for you. Surely you can add 60 words somewhere, starting with , "For example..." Good luck. Looking forward to reading it. Brian

Excellent, I'm taking a writing seminar right now, so I might be able to get away with writing this article for my class.
And even if I can't I'll have some expert help on this article |

After consideration, I've decided to allow dual authorship of articles as well. As long as both people's contributions are stated. So, you can have someone taking pictures and someone else writing, or illustrating, or you write the text together....
The rules above are being changed to reflect this. You have two months to work on your articles, good luck!! I'm here to help you in any way I can.... Joanie |

Is having an editor allowed?

It sound from reading Joanie's post that more than one person can work on a single article as long as each person is credited for what they have done.
So, following that reasoning I would say yes, as long as you state who the editor was. If I am wrong she will say so. -Paul

Paul is right, you can have help as long as you credit the person who helped you. I've been considering exactly what an "editor" might mean, and what is in the spirit of the competition.
The actual writing must be done by the person or persons who are members of the forum. You can have help with spelling, grammar, etc. if you wish, and advice on how to make the article better, so if that's what you mean by an "editor" that's fine. For instance, if your spouse or parent is willing to help you with the article structure so that it flows better, or a teacher at school gives you tips, that's quite all right. If two forum members are writing it together, they can help each other of course. The spirit of the competiton is to showcase the diverse and interesting talents that we have here. Everything from how-to articles, to interviews and bios, to opinions, humorous or inspirational articles, all of this is acceptable. Have fun, enjoy doing the article, try to learn a little something yourself on the way... stretch yourself to go just a little farther in your journey... not only will you grow as a bonsai artist, but you will enrich all of us. joanie, not only to bring this thread back to the top, but hopefully to answer some questions that BT members may have.
what if someone has a great idea for an article, but it is about something that they briefly wrote about here in the past. a) can it still qualify for the contest, and b) do the chances of the source being known decrease the value of the articles submission? hope this helps. chris
