Trees From Club Auction
I mentioned on the juniper thread that I had gotten a couple of Procumbens at my club auction, where prices are usually so low that I usually give stuff for the benefit of the club, rather than selling.
Anyhow, I got rid of one tree (Musk scented Maple) and came back with four. Not a very efficient thinning of my collection. Here is the main tree I bought. The others sort of followed it home. It is a procumbens cascade (in a tokoname pot, yet!) What kind of monster is that holding the tree? ![]() Last edited by Bart Thomas : 11-Dec-2003 at 03:33 PM. |

YOU CAN NOT RUSH TIME
|
Yes, Bart did well.... that is he acquired some nice trees... but he left with more than he arrived....HUM....
![]() He also got them at some real fine prices, this year we had a lot of trees, one member was moving down to Florida and wanted to limit the trees he took with him. I think he brought 2 dozen or so trees. In addition there were other members who wished to 'cut back' and also sold some trees at the auction. If I can I will take a picture of a larch I got at the auction. I too think I did very well....... Jay

Jerry, it is so terrific to hear from someone from Whitefish, especially one with an interest in Bonsai. During my college days, I worked for the USFS, Tally Lake District every Summer and I have such fond memories of Writefish! I'll bet it's changed alot since the early 60s and I'd scarcely know it now!
Can you tell me about practicing Bonsai in your area today? Are you alone there, or are there other Bonsai lovers besides yourself? Do you collect any of the marvelous timberline trees there? Do you work primarily with the several marvelous species native to your area? I'm hoping that I can take my family to your area one Summer soon. Every so often, Walter Pall will share pictures of his Alps with us on BonsaiTalk. Well, his Alps have nothing on the Rockies in your area. How I loved it there in the Summers I spent with the Forest Service! Best regards, Fred |
