Ms. Irene,
Thank you for sharing these photos...I'm not sure I understand why in your photos I am the only one of the club members actually 'pressing the flesh' [talking to visitors] and all other members are sitting around doing nothing, but it did open my eyes to who is doing 'all' the work in our club...Just kidding of course...I too would like to show a few photos I took during the day, and share some thoughts on the exhibit and the viewers...As usual the lighting is not the best for photos, but hopefully between the two set of photos one can get some idea of the exhibit...I did not get photos of the tables as a whole, perhaps if Mr. Jay did he will also share some he took...The first is a photo of forum member Jay Nolen [green happy coat and pink skull cap] 'pressing the flesh' [or perhaps wishing]...The second photo is of the viewing stone display set up by one of our newest club members who recently relocated to San Antonio from Tulsa, Oklahoma, and we are very fortunate to have him join our club...Then a photo of a pyracantha with stork which was at the entry to the room where our trees were displayed... Regards Behr ![]()

One of our club members has worked for over 25 years developing some very outstanding 'root over rock' plantings, and these trees are always an 'attention getter' at any of our shows...The first is a texas ebony about 23 years in development...
The second is a cedar elm group started from root cuttings...This tree group always causes many people to ask, "is it dead" when shown in the dormant state, but that always leads to discussion and sharing of information...The Texas cedar elm usually has a leaf measuring about 1 to 1 1/2 inches in length, but the leaf reduction on this planting is quite astounding with leaves about the size of a catlin elm... We usually try to have a few trees each year in the 'Asian Festival' show, that are still in various stages of training...Some have even been displayed in nursery cans...This show is not a judged show, but an opportunity for us to educate the public on what we do, and the processes we use...The last tree in this group [from the same artist] is a catlin elm sporting a considerable amount of wire... Regards Behr ![]()

Forum member deza_towain displayed these two collected boxwoods...The first has been in several of our club exhibitions, but this time has a new stand...This is a collected piece of 'weathered barn board' and I think makes a truly appropriate stand for this rugged style tree...The second is in the process of development and I used this tree at a recent club exhibit to demonstrate how deadwood can be added where there is none...
The third photo in this group is a collected 'eastern red cedar' which belongs to one of the founding members of our club... Regards Behr ![]()
