Thank you Mr. Behr for showing the one at the entrance! I could not get a shot of it...too many people lol.
Would you also be so kind as to name each of the trees I posted as well? Irene

The next 3 trees also belong to the owner of the 'eastern red cedar'...First a texas ebony grown from seed, which will be 30 years old this coming spring...The second is an emerald green ficus 'root over rock'...The third is a collected yaupon holly...

The first JBP also belongs to the founding member...The second and third photos respectively are trees belonging to a relatively 'new to bonsai' artist...He has in the last couple years taken a very active roll in our club, and I think he has a very good 'eye' for style...I always look forward to seeing his work...The second photo is a 'Brazilian raintree' from a workshop he did this past year at the state convention...The third is a recent acquisition JBP which he is planning to use the last weekend of the month for a JPB workshop...

The viewing stones in the display from post #8 are the next 3 photos...The first is a 'waterfall stone' purchased in Japan...This stone has an interesting story concerning the acquisition...After separating to cover more territory at a 'stone shopping department store' in Japan, the owner and his wife met to discuss what they had picked from the thousands of stones in the store...As it turned they had both picked this same stone when considering the amount of cash they were going to invest...
The second Stone is from China, and was purchased with dai in an 'antique' store... The mountain stone, with dai, and box, are also from Japan... Regards Behr ![]()

Two additional stones were a part of our exhibit...These were displayed among the trees so that the stone exhibit would not be over crowded...The first belongs to the same collector as the 3 stones in post #14...This stone with dai was also purchased in Japan...The second with the cactus accent belongs to forum Member Jay Nolen...This stone was purchased at the convention in DC in 2005...It is of African origin, but the way Mr. Jay has chosen to display it with the accent, it does evoke a feeling of the South Western United States...

The last 2 trees I would like to share do have some something in common...The trees belong to Mr. Jay and myself, but both were grown and pre-trained by forum member Andy Graham...Both of these trees have been shown in the clubs last 2 exhibits, and in both they were the obvious 'peoples choice' with Mr. Jay's banyan [first photo] a definite leader...It was the most asked about, and surprisingly the most photographed tree in the exhibit...At the Asian Festival I was pleasantly surprised to see the number of people that had their photograph taken with this tree...The tree was like a magnet to the viewers...
One thing happened with my tree that I must admit, was very unexpected but caused me to swell with pride...I was standing reasonably close to the tree when an elderly Japanese gentleman was viewing the tree, paying much attention to all viewable sides...He got down to where he could look up into the canopy from below, then stretched around to attempt to view all sides...After some time looking he turned to me and ask...Your tree?...I stepped over closer and replied yes...He pointed to the species tag and said "not Japanese", to which I related to him, this was a tropical species, and shared some information about the species...After a bit more conversation his comment made my day when he told me "This tree is not bonsai"...I agreed with him, and he went on to tell me "but very good poonsai" [phonetic for pensai]...The gentleman was obviously somewhat knowledgeable of bonsai yet he recognized the 'Chinese' influence in the tree...We then spent some time discussing the deadwood, and he had quite an interest in the way which I had treated it to preserve it... I know Mr. Jay also had many conversations at the exhibit, and hope he will share some of his thoughts and experiences... Regards Behr ![]()
