Our Clubs December Meeting
Bonsai Northwest in Melbourne had its finally meeting last night for the year. It was a very enjoyable night with lots of food and some excellent trees on display. Below are a few of pictures from the night.
This is an english elm that was dug out of the ground 9 years ago. Quentin(pictured) has some fantastic trees. |

To find some more pictures go to
www.bonsainorthwest.com.au The last picture is of Brad(left) and myself(right). I was shocked and very humbled to have received the inaugrul Ron Anderson award for encouragement for dedication to bonsai and the club. The committee members which includes myself had sat down weeks ago and decided to give the award to someone else. However the committee cunningly and sneakly had already known that I was going to receive it. Obviously I was oblivious to what was going on. The committee members said the look on my face was absolutely PRICELESS when they annouced the winner. I bet it was. I never get tricked like that. I'm the one usually doing that. Ron Anderson is probably the most experienced (over 50 years) bonsai artist in Australia and is held in high regard all over Australia. His trees are featured in one of the Australian bonsai books. I was very humbled to have received this award. David |

Congratulations on your award David! Nice trident. I would love to get my hands on a trident with a nice thick trunk but I don't think they do too good here in South Texas.

There are parts of Australia too that have similar climate to yourself that struggle to grow tridents. I always thought they are hardy in all climates but Australia has a harsh climate in Summer and no maple can take the punishment it could dish out. Tridents in Melbourne Zone 9+ do fine with maybe a bit of protection in the hottest part of summer.
Thanks Gil. David |

That first elm is fantastic! I was going to ask how tall it is, but then I realized I could get a good guess from the first pic when compared with the owner. Was this tree in the wild, or a suburban yamadori?
