Kudos to San Diego Bonsai Club!
Kudos to San Diego Bonsai Club! Having only been to two meetings, I am overwhelmed with how active and interesting they are. Their big show and sale is coming up this weekend, and they offer monthly classes, Tree of the Month, and other activities.
The other great part is that they have a lending library. And the book that I've been looking for is in their collection! They have shelves and shelves of books, old and new, on bonsai and related topics. WOW! The joy of being able to go to a club meeting and get help, talk to others about your passion, see up close the kind of trees and techniques that you most want to emulate...... Join a club!! Pitch in and volunteer! Joanie, counting her pennies for the sale next weekend... |

Yes, the Native pygmys were surprised to see us. They said "what Small ? we thought those were regular sized trees." Then we all went to Tijuana for Refreshments and Carne de burro Tacos. Ah memories

"Carne de Burro" Nut??
Is that what's in the tacos? (GREAT to meet you too. And such a pleasure to put a face to the name and "voice". Your demo on making pots was so much fun!! You're a true potter, and a blast as well!) Joanie |

We were warned that you were coming.... we're supposed to be on our best behavior! (grin) Street tacos, in the lovely setting of Balboa Park. For anyone visiting who doesn't know, Balboa Park was built for the Pan-California Exposition of 1915. It was a sort of Worlds Fair type event, popular at the time. The Panama Canal was opening up trade possibilities for the West Coast, and many cities in California wanted to bring attention to themselves. Look around at the architecture in the Prado, most of the buildings were built for this Expo. The Japanese Friendship Garden began then, as well as the open-air Spreckles Organ Pavilion. The collection of animals left over from the Expo was also the start of the world famous San Diego Zoo. I actually own a book of photographs taken by a young lady who went to the Expo, and my friend and I took a digital camera one day, and the photo album, and stood in the exact places she stood, and took the same views. It gives one goosebumps to be able to touch the past in such an immediate fashion. Looking forward to seeing you, Geodude!! Say hi if you see me, we will probably all be wearing name tags... And eating tacos. No burro meat, though, right Nut? ![]() Joanie |
