Club Membership!! FINALLY!!

Well it was a long time in the making,

In October, I contacted a local club (after much searching) and made arrangements to attend their November meeting at New England Bonsai Gardens, to check out the club and see if I would like to join. Due to a last minute business trip to Utah I was unable to attend. So I called my contact back and made arrangements to attend their December Holiday party/meeting. Well the meeting was canceled because of 30+" of snow that weekend. The meeting was moved to the next Sunday, but of course with my luck we got another snow storm and yep you guessed it canceled again. The meeting was rescheduled for yesterday. I was sure it would snow and the meeting canceled once again, but luck was on my side yesterday! I attended the meeting, had the opportunity to meet some really wonderful folks, and was made to feel right at home. The meeting was actually the 04 events planning meeting, so I got the chance to hear about all the great things being planned for the coming year, and promptly handed my check to the treasurer becoming the newest member of the "Bonsai Study Group of Massachusetts"

I am very excited with this next step in my bonsai hobby. The members all seem great, and I believe I will be able to learn much from them.

Anxiously awaiting the February meeting,
Adam

Adam...GREAT!!! My Bonsai knowledge has greatly improved since I joined a club. I'm sure yours will as well. This site is great, but first hand in person can not be beat!!!

That's great, Adam. I'm very happy to hear that you've found a club/group to bonsai with. Clubs and study groups are wonderful resources with which to expand horizons and just plain have fun. Enjoy!

Kind regards,

It is wonderful to connect. Years ago, I wandered aimlessly trying to find one person to bonsai with. The closest organization was Minnesota Bonsai Society, a cool three hours south. They met every 1st tuesday at 7p. Not a feasible trip for me. One day while out garage sale hopping with the better half caught sight of a wonderful bonsai display behind a house. After finding the owner, a great friendship began. He and I decided to find others and sent out feelers, ads in free papers, ads in the garden section of the local paper and found us a nursery for a meeting spot. A year and a half later we have a member count of 25 and growing.

It can only get better.

Thanks guys!
I am very excited and eager to absorb everything I can, and with one of the scheduled events being a day long workshop with Kenji Miyata at New England Bonsai Gardens, I'm sure I will learn a great deal this coming year!

Great story Paul, I wish your club continued success in 04

Adam:

You're in great hands with New England Bonsai. If you get ready to do small trees, you should also visit Royal Bonsai Garden in Stoughton.

Hey Bart,
You're right about New England Bonsai, I have been there quite a few times and they are great there. Actually about half of my club meeting will be held at Royal Bonsai Garden. I believe we will have a workshop with Suthin Sukosolvisit this coming year as well.

Lots of learning to be done!
