Auctions are fantastic events however we only do it every two years or so. Allows people to accumulate enough stuff to sell. My dog is called a Maremma. Not well known breed. It's a breed that comes from Italy and is sometimes known as the Italian sheep dog. He is only 2 months old in the photo. He is now 5 months and 26kgs. Big boy but very beautiful. David |

David,
Sounds like a cousin to my Arlo, he is a Great Pyrenees. Also used for sheep herding, but comes from the region (hence name). Originally when born, he is all white, but has a black mask....but loses it within the first couple months. Then completely white. He was born April and is now 75 pounds.....gonna be a big boy. Good bonsai watch dogs......right? Paul

Very interesting. The Maremma is named after a town in Italy that breed them. They are used as guard dogs for herds, especially sheep, goats, chickens and the small stock. They are put into the flock when they are very young and taken out after a few months in there. They get so used to be around the flock that they forwever will stay with them and protect them. They have been very successful in doing that. He (Reece) is still at the digging and chewing plants stage. But he is already showing his guard dog abilities in other ways. David |

I was talking to my wife....she is a dog know it all. She said exactly what you did.
The GP are also done the same way with the flocks....put in young so all they really know is them. Arlo is out with our animals and is a great watch dog, even tho he is young. We have sheep, and cows and and Alpaca (who thinks Arlo is taking his job). Sorry this is so off topic. Back on topic tho I think the bonsai Auction is a great idea. In fact, next fall I plan to auction of some of my stuff. More than likely thru the silent auction. I took a look at your link. The trees were marvelous!! I picked up a Ficus Retusa 'Kingman' (aka....Tigerbark) at the last auction I went to. I also won bids for a rosemary and a nice shimpaku. Paul

The only thing we have for our dog to protect are a few chickens. But I guess he is protective of us and my bonsai which is good. Since I organised this auction I had all the reserve prices written down and in front of me. I only managed to pick a nice pot that I was after. There was some beautiful japanese pots for sale that I was after as well. The photos from the auction night weren't all for sale. Some of the trees were on our display table. For us the auction night is a great night to pick up very cheap bargins. That is what i love about it. Great pick of that ficus. Have fun at the next auction. David |
