Badger Bonsai Roy Nagatoshi Demo and Workshops
The Badger Bonsai Society had bonsai artist Roy Nagatoshi visit for a demo on boxwood, and two days of bonsai fun filled days of workshops.
I took too many pictures to post here so if you want to see that use the links below. Demo Workshop Day 1 Workshop Day 2 One thing that I learned from Roy was the use of Lysol disinfectant on cut areas, and he said that on most species that is all you will need. -Paul

We have had Roy at many of our Fall Japanese Festivals and he does a great job. We do a demo for anyone interested and he is the one that got me really interested in bonsai. I know he has inspired a great number of people to get interested in bonsai. Great job Roy!!

That's the first time I've heard that one. Are there species that react badly to Lysol? Or do some just need additional wound sealing?

He began with "most of you probaly know that with certain species, you need to cut a bit past where you wanted the cut to be. This will allow for the die back that always occurs."
He said that the main reason for dieback of a branch that was cut is caused by "germs". Lysol kills 99.9% of all germs, will disinfect the cut area allowing for the natural healing process to begin, and with using Lysol, the healing is much quicker. Also he says clean your tools with it after every dead branch cut, and between trees. He said that we should use Lysol on all species, and that only certain species will need aditional "cut paste", like bougainvillea. He has been doing this for around 15 years ans swears by it. Pic one - the result of not cleaning the cut area or tools two - Roy talking about Lysol
