Huh? Atlanta Club?

Hey, I was just wondering if there is anyone here who is a member of the Atlanta bonsai club, that live near Athens. I would love to go a meeting to see what it's like, but as my car is down I have no ride, and was wondering if some one would like to let me ride with them,...depending on when the meeting is I would most likely be able help out a little with gas. Thanks in advance. Jeremy M.C.

The only bonsai club I have found in the Atlanta, Georgia area is the Atlanta Bonsai Society. I have been a member for nearly a year. They meet once a month in a church in East Point, Georgia, near the Atlanta airport. They have a guest bonsai master nearly every month who usually gives a workshop on a Saturday and then a demonstration/lecture on the following Sunday. Everyone is welcome and there is a website at www.atlantabonsaisociety.com. Come on down.

Andy, I'm not exactly sure how I came across the link to the site above, but it wasn't this thread. Anyway, I've just looked thru the site. Looks like there is some huge talent in the club, and even better that they bring in regularly.

Whats the difference between the formats from Saturday to Sunday? More specifically, what goes on in the workshops?

About 3 hrs away (correction 2½ hrs),
Wayne F

I am so new, I have yet to attend my first 'free' (normally $45 each) workshop. The first one is free to all new members. From what I can gather, they are actual hands-on type workshops for intermediate to advanced. Last month it was Ben Oki. Since I only went to the Sunday regular meeting, I only saw him work two trees from stock into bonsai. After the demonstration, the trees were auctioned off. This month, I plan on attending the workshop by Kenji Miyata on Fed. 25.

Much appreciated! That is awesome that they bring in such big names for styling advice/help. I've got the site bookmarked. Things are just starting to settle down from my new home purchase/move (9 months commuting sucks) or I'd commit to being there for the Miyata workshop.

Any idea about how quickly the spaces fill up? Just wondering.

Thanks for your help,
WF

From what I can tell so far, if a particular workshop fills up quickly, they try to schedule a second. I am fairly certain there had to be a second scheduled for Kenji Miyata, because of his popularity. I am sweating finding good material stock to take to the workshop. If been reading the thread about not insulting a master with inferior material. I don't seem to have as much a problem seeing what 'could be' as finding material to see it in. I'm such a rookie... yet so smitten by this bonsai bug. thanks

The Atlanta Bonsai Society has an impressive list of guest artist/instructors. Great opportunities to learn from masters. Good for them!
