Hi all,
Barry you are thoughtful - thanks. I don't know what other options I have at this point - we do not have a website (nor I personally) and I am a bit digitally illiterate as far as establishing one goes (that is why I am not in charge of this part!). So, for now, I will email the forms - unless someone has another specific idea on posting them somewhere? (I can also fax them from work or mail them). I will just accumulate emails in groups and send them out.
ALSO, Barry, jjeter and DonRoche - can you send me a personal message with your email addresses please?
Vance, do you mean me personally or the society's definition? I don't think the society as yet has a set definition - other than that used generally in Japan and elsewhere. As you know - there is varying interpretations of what a shohin sized bonsai is. If you go to www.shohin-europe.com you will see a pretty good discussion of the current definition that is used in Japan and generally accepted.
Obviously, you don't have to grow only shohin bonsai to support the organization! I grow predominantly shohin sized bonsai but have some huge ones also!
thanks,
John

Updates:
1) We have slightly changed he name to 'American Shohin Bonsai Society' for 2 reason: Many pointed out that the acronym 'AASS' was a bit unfortunate :-( and, secondly, the japanese word 'shohin' is an adjective and should describe the noun 'bonsai' when used.
2) The workshops in Sept with Tomohiro Masumi are 98% full!
3) We are in the process of designing and ordering ASBS pins (Christine Schmallenberg has designed our logo and pins) for all you 'pinophiles' ;-)
4) We are also in the process of registering a website - I do not know at this point how the actual website development is progressing. Our current email is: americanshohin@msn.com
5) Rob King (the ASBS founder) and myself are off to Japan on Aug 10 to start a part time apprenticeship with shohin bonsai master, Nobuichi Urushibata. This will require annual visits and study at his nursery for a number of years. We are very excited that he has accepted us! You can read an interview with Mr. Urushibata at:

peace in bonsai,
John Romano
