Walter Pall Workshop - Marin Bonsai

Craig Thompsen of the Marin Bonsai Club hosted a day of Walter Pall workshops at his home. I was fortunate enough to attend the evening session, and had a great time.

Walter, with beer in hand, sends his regards to the forum, and promises to be back soon.

You may have seen my Thuja before. Walter agreed with the group's assessment on removing some of the trunks on the left. He also agrees with Matt's assessment of the foliage - easily the worst part of the tree. Watler's solution? Emphasize the movement in the trunks and deadwood, and leave only enough foliage on it to keep it alive.

Walter sees this tree in a custom-made pot, perhaps a crescent pot - one of huge proportions, I'm afraid. It will be transplanted into a decidedly more average pot this winter, waiting until I can afford the pot it deserves.

We spent quite a bit of time discussing and demonstrating Walter's blow-torch techniques for generating more natural looking jin and shari. I'll be spending this weekend with my wife's creme brulee torch, I think.

Cheers
Brian

Oh, I forgot. We also got extensive instruction on the behavior of a German/Austrian "mountain man". Different details than the Rocky Mountains moutain men, but the same spirit. Apparently we must forgive Arnold for his "direct" approach with women

Cheers to all.
