Walter Pall at Nature's Way workshop

I attended Walter Pall's workshop at Nature's Way this past weekend. We worked on his collected Rocky Mt Junipers and Ponderosa Pines. Walter started with an overview of Bonsai art and then went on to discuss the care of these old trees. Next we looked and discussed the health and styling options of the the trees. A few trees were chosen for work and we carried them the the work room where they were cleaned up and continued discussing their future as bonsai. These trees have been collected a few years ago and were well established in the grow-boxes so it was time to transplant into bonsai training pots.

Here are some pictures of the first round.

Hi Waltr,

Thanks for posting pictures and I look forward to any more that you happen to post. I can personally agree with you that all of these trees were phenominal trees and some are of the highest quality.....

Thanks for posting!

Here is the monster Ponderosa. Walter estimated that this tree could be well over 2000 years old. It was a struggle for four of us the move this tree.

And finally the two trees I bought. One is a Ponderosa that I really liked. The other is a small Rock Mt Juniper. Walter got a kick when I bought this tree.

During the workshop I had looked at this little juniper and could not see what could be done with it. We brought it into the work area and examine the possibilities. The shari in the photo wasn't seen from the way it was originally potted so it had a 'V' shape and all this broom like foliage.

Now I took the workshop on Friday and didn't buy any trees and drove the two hours home. That night I couldn't sleep thinking about the Ponderosa and this little Juniper. Saturday morning my wife asked what's wrong and I told her that I'm not sure if I should buy the Ponderosa. She questioned me then said "Call Nature's Way and buy the Ponderosa." I did and said I can pick it up next Saturday. Sunday morning She saw me pacing and said "go get your tree now."
So off I go to get mt tree. When I pulled into the parking lot Jim Doyle saw me and grinned ear to ear. I few people I knew from Rosade's and Allshapes were in the Sunday workshop. After talking we went and looked at at my Ponderosa and the other trees. The little juniper was still there so I picked it up, carried it down and stated this one is mine.
I still can't state what it is I like but I do like it.

Good for you Walt! All of these trees with the exception of the large ponderosa sat in my backyard for a few years so I know they are good. Everyone that walked away with trees got exceptional trees, and your little ponderosa is an standout tree.

When we unloaded that big ponderosa after collection I about lost it! I consider that medium sized, but I loved that tree. Walter did too and so he got it!

Good buys on your part.... you didn't go wrong I assure you of that.

In the future you should plan to develop these trees in Walter workshops....

See ya, Jason

Walt,

thanks for posting. I will post much more as soon as I am back in three days.

The huge ponderosa is, I think around 300 to 500 years old. The huge Rocky Mountain juniper with a base of 1 foot which you do not show, is maybe 2,000 to 3,000 years old. You don't have to believe it, I do.
