Al, if you wouldn't mind: What are the dimensions of the pot and how much did you pay for it? Excellent tutorial and keep us updated!
Regards, Bonsaimeister

Al,
Wonderful sequence of shots, I aspire to be as well chronicled as you someday! Tridents are so much fun to work with, and I have a couple that are moving in the right direction also. I am inspired now to go out and take pictures. Nice work with the big one, it'll be a great tree soon enough with the fine root work you did. Scott |

trident maple ground layering question
Al, Thanks for the fantastic Trident maple tutorials. I'll be looking at them again for instruction and inspiration. I've a question about layering to improve nebari (maple and zelkova). What about removing the tree from the bonsai pot and sinking the entire thing into a box, with a new soil line above the level of the ground layering? I expect the box could make it difficult to keep an eye on the progress of the new roots, but I am in an extremely hot and dry climate and am worried about having a small pot of soil around the cut area; it'll dry out very fast. I suppose I could enclose the whole thing in plastic. What would you suggest? Thanks again!

Ok how did I miss this one?
Nice job Al, I have been seeing and reading more about tridents lately, and all this does is make me want to get a couple. Thanks for the post.

As a beginner, posts such as this one are educational and inspiring. Am a big fan of your work bonsaial, in particular your step by step write up. In my neck of the woods, where there are no classes for me to attend, threads such as this one provide an online tutorial which is easy to follow. Thanks
