South Texas Workshop #3
The day started with rain.
But Jay Nolen wasn't going to allow rain to slow him down. He arrived with a "Monster". After breakfast taco's we set to work. First he and hubby set up Jay's Canopy right on the driveway. With the size of the "Monster" I had Nooo problems agreeing! We all spent the day working on this beast! Out of the old pot and onto the table, after teasing the roots we just had to look under it! Sweet! Nice and flat! Next Jay preps his pot for this beast. And I will let him tell you the size of the pot. Here in Texas we do have a tendency to do things in a Big way, and we did not use a small puny little scoop. Dustpan seemed like the best solution for this! Well, while the fellas wrestled the beast I got the table ready to put it on ( and yes they groaned loudly) and on the table it went, with not much room left. Now the real work started as we cleaned it up. While Jay directed (those who know him know what I mean ) I moved it to the right, no back to the left, twist it a little, nope has to go to the right more.Well after I do not know just how long His Royal Whiney Hiney The King was happy. We finished getting the soil in and around those sweet roots and took a break and had lunch. We sat down in front of the "Monster" and looked at ways to tame him. We tugged on this and tugged on that and Jay decided it needed to be just a tad higher in the back. So after that was finished to Jays satisfaction we had another look from the front. Now out came the cutters with Jay wielding them like a samuri warrior and he snipped here and he snipped there and nope this just had to go. Well after all the snipping he did I just may have enough cutting for a National Forest! While I planted the National Forest he and hubby loaded the "Tamed Beastie" on the tailgate of his truck and got it nice and secure for it's trip Home. Irene P.S. I am looking very forward to my trip to Oklahoma and having a mini vacation. And FYI this was the ending to the South Texas Bonsai Workshops for this year at this location. Hey Andy! Your turn

First off, it only rained up till lunch.
Second, Irene, name calling will not win you points with me. Just because you give orders better than you take them does not make me a "His Royal Whiney Hiney". (geeze) This first pic is the front while it was still in it's original 36 inch mica pot. The second pic is just to show everyone how tall..... Drove home with it lashed to the tailgate because it is too tall to go inside the camper shell. Two hours to get home on the back roads going 20-30 mph. Even got passed by bicycle riders going downhill.

Mr. Jay,
Even though you found a better pot for the large golden gate ficus, this is a great tree for the 'leftover' pot...Congratulations on owning one more tree that you need help to move...I am beginning to think that thanks to Mr. Andy and all those huge trees he is allowing into San Antonio, we will be needing a few more club tables for up-coming shows so we can have a display table for each tree...Great job again folks, sorry I had to miss this one too... Thanks for taking and posting these photos Ms. Irene... BTW...Jay don't you think it is time to start looking for a larger truck?... Regards Behr ![]()

Now I'm REALLY sorry I missed this one! What a great tree!
I like the dustpan scoop. Makes my dogfood shovel look like a teaspoon. Seriously? No more workshops this year? Darn!! Well, I'm glad I at least got to go to the first one. Mike |
