Question SOBs, some help please with tardy JBP

My Japanese Black Pine is behaving badly. It has plenty of strong green needles from last year, but no new growth.

It pushed out some candles last summer, but they stopped half-way and never developed needles. Nothing new has appeared this year.

Wazzup wit dat?

tanx,
pootsie

There are several reasons. It probably was decandled too late, not enough fertilizer, stayed too cold in winter and or poor soil. Did you repot it?

If the new candle grow, leave it along this year.
Good luck,
Boon

Thanks, Boon.

It has not been repotted. I gave it some fertilizer last year (osmocote) and didn't de-candle. Because I was new to the area, the winter treatment I had used in my old location was not sufficient, but I didn't learn that until late in the winter.

I'll just let it be for now, I guess.

Think yourself lucky pootsie, my mugo isn't pushing any new growth either. Might be the fact that it's dead though...

a ressurected thread.

May have been that deficient winter care took the new buds, hopefully you are seeing some growth by now. By all means though go on a more aggressive fert. schedule than , last year I fertilized.

How is that pine doing now?
