bonsaiTALK Hint: Did you know you can double click any bonsai term on this page for its definition?

Selecting A Tree For Walter Pall Workshop

Hi folks,

I have the good fortune to have signed up for a workshop with Walter Pall in November, and I'm trying to select a tree to take in. The first option is the Thuja that I've posted here before. I also have a large and unruly Pyracantha, and a very large Dwarf Alberta Spruce. Some advice please, especially from those who have lots of workshop experience. Which tree should I take?

First the Thuja.

Brian

Spruce top. Note that the trunk splits into a larger and smaller trunk about a quarter of the way up. The larger trunk splits into to apices (apexes?) near the top.

So, which should it be. I suppose I could take more than one and let Walter decide.

I would go with the Thuja. you got a lot to work with both on the foliage and the dead wood. Because of time constraints he might be able to help you out with the foliage and tell you which direction to go with the dead wood. Hopefully he will have time to do both but if he doesn't at least you'll know which direction your headed. The spruce would be my close second choice. Have fun, wish I could be there.

I would go with the one that walter is most comfortable working with.

Glad to. If Herr Pall happens to see this thread before he leaves for California, perhaps he can save me the trouble of hauling two large trees.
