Our visit was a great success. We had six altogether, any more would have crowded us out. Why? Well, with a fierce cold front and teperatures in the single digits, we had to meet in the living room!

Here we are just getting together and working on some trees. What a great day!

Thumbs up

Does not matter where or when, nor what the temps are, will stop a group of devoted Bonsai folks from having fun!
How about shots of those trees that were worked!
And names attached to the faces!
Irene

I think this is an understatement. I've been playing around with bonsai for several years, but I think I learned more in one day than in all that time.

Chris' explanations and demonstration of wiring techniques made it much clearer. Ciro showed us a technique he learned for anchoring guy wires was amazing. Who would have thought that sticking a wire into a drainage hole and running it up the side of a pot would be enough to hold a large branch down.

To the others present and who will be coming to the next one I am looking forward to working with you.

PS: I'm the fat bald one with the green shirt on the right.

Come on, Tom! Compared to me(red shirt), you're shaggy with hair!!
BTW, since I met you, I've been glowing in the dark .... should I be concerned? Vic

We did have some fun, didn't we? I learned a great new technique for anchoring guy wires that uses less wire, takes no time, and holds firmly. What a concept!

And, we were able to take things lightly, with this "National Enquirer" style photo:

Thanks for the photo to BillinKCMO

John, So far just festering! Here's another pic of Chris with the pine we spent most of our time on. We had more material to work on, but for Tom and I (as guys with less developed trees), it was more beneficial to see Chris start the styling and wiring on this pine. I know I'm going to learn a ton at the next one!

While working on this tree, I suggested to Ciro that I'd like to remove the first branch. It's always a hard decision for a tree owner but this tree has a future as a literati, with a great movement to the upper trunk.

Later, the same suggestion was made, even without finishing the wiring of this tree. That would also enable me to get rid of the sloppier wiring of that branch. Nothing to see here folks...

http://forum.bonsaitalk.com/newrepl...ly&p=227598#All right Vic, I'll concede you might have more hair, and I agree I learned much more watching Chris work on Ciro's and Bob's trees.

By the way, don't worry about the glow, it will fade after awhile.

I'll see everyone on the 22nd. (no need to bring lights)
