Just got back from Marco's Demo
Pennsylvania Bonsai Society and Lehigh Valley Bonsai Club had a joint meeting tonight at Quakertown, PA. Marco Invernizzi was invited to do a demo on a very nice garden juniper with natural deadwood.
I'll post pictures and some stuff I learned tomorrow after my two finals ![]() |

I wish I could've gone, but there was just too much going on. Friday, I had Hey Day at School, it's a Junior Class tradition at Penn to get trashed and march around campus until we get to the President's officer where she proclaims us Seniors. Then on Saturday, I had a birthday party, my birthday was actually on Easter but I didn't think that was the best day to be drinking. But I planned on going on Sunday, but my drunky friends stuck around and we kept drinking into Sunday afternoon.
So maybe next year, I really wanted to go, but I guess it's for the better since I'm broke and jobless.I was going to post the pics now, but I left my camera in the car and my GF drove it to work, so maybe tomorrow morning or when she gets back Last edited by soonami : 28-Apr-2006 at 09:35 PM. |

Wouldn't let me edit my posts, so I have to double.
1. The garden juniper found probably in someone's yard. It looks pretty decent at this point, but still like it came from a gas station2. Marco jin'd all but the two main branches you see in the first pic. He then asked us to pick between the branch to the right that follows the flow of the trunk and the branch to the right that leans back over the root base. We picked the one that arched back over the roots, but he ended up picking the one that moved to the left for several reasons: a. The live vein had more movement and was more interesting. b. The live vein for the branch had a single root where the deadwood was rotted away under it. c. There was a branch behind the branch he picked that could be wired as a back branch d. There were already jin on the right side and have foliage there would unbalance the tree and cross over the jin. 3. At this point most of us where thinking, "omg, he ruined the tree." 4. And this is why he is a master and we are students. While he wired the tree, we watched in amazement. Also he dictated his almost 30 rules of wiring he learned from working with Kimura that can be found here: http://pabonsai.org/pbsnewsletter.html I have them here too incase the site gets updated and the rules are lost Code:
5. That is the tree that is finished its initial styling and with a suggested front. Notice it was not repot even though the tree was in good condition. I heard this weekend from our club president who won the raffle for this tree that the Juniper is doing well and is healthy about 2 months later. |

Thanks,
Marco is very diligent about tree health. He works very hard to ensure that the tree hasn't had too much done to it. John

soonami,
Thanks for the pictures and info on this tree. I stopped in and watched Marco somewhere before the last picture with Marco. Watching him wiring and shaping the foliage pads was truely inspiring. walt |

It was amazing to me too because he had formed an image of the tree in his head already and was working to create it. There was so much foresight in what he did, I guess that's something that rubs off from working with Kimura's premier collection

Like I said, he is diligent about tree health. If he didn't think the tree would have a very high likelyhood of surviving and fluorishing, he wouldn't have done it.
