JBP workshopping with BONSAIKC

A couple of days ago i put it to KC if he would be so kind as to walk me through refining jbp's on this tree i have basically recieved as a gift after buying two others.
This tree is possibly 7 years old grown in a polystyrene box. it saw its first bonsai pot spring 2007. From what i can gather there is plenty of roots, hence why it is planted so high in such a large pot.
KC will instruct me on how to do the needed work on this tree here on this thread.

The photo's are in order front first, then rotating anti clockwise at 45 degree intervals. However the 4 main sides have close ups of base and top seperately.

I've chosen the front i have because the trunk has subtle direction changes, making for a natural and interesting informal upright. The nebari is best at 45 degrees clockwise from here but the trunk gets a bit static through the centre, from this view.

Even though i have mentioned informal upright my thoughts on this tree are very open. The bottom right branch i feel might still have some purpose in fattening the base, drawing some energy low into the tree and eventually being developed for jin.

The top part of the tree is growig strong and getting heavy in places definately needs addressing before it goes to far if not already. im certainly not opposed to elimenating the current apex if we need to for the better of the tree.

The point of this exercise is not neccesarily styling, but more so refining techniques. Even though styling needs to come to this equation.

Antonio,
The first challenge is that I have to translate everything I say into your southern hemisphere seasonal setting. Here in Kansas, we are seeing candles extend as the trees really begin to grow. Some repotting can still be done now but it is an unusually cool spring here so normally it'd be too late.

Your tree is beginning to slow its growth, so fall work is in order. What are your temperatures at this time of year, and when do you expect your deciduous trees to begin to turn color?

I would also like to say that I feel honored to be asked to work like this. This looks like a very nice piece of material that has some possibilities. Thanks, Antonio!
