California Juniper no. 3.

This juniper is planted in the informal upright style. It is 24 inches tall and has a 30 inch spread. The trunk is 6 inches across at the base. This tree has had some light carving and some wire has been applied to some of the branches. This repot was welcome as there was much field soil around the roots which made the tree weak. The tree should be able to recover much easier with the increased water and air circlation the soil will provide.

Virtuals of the canopy area, jins and shari are eagerly accepted. Additional views can be asked for and I will accomodate ASAP.

Al,
You have posted some beautiful material in these junipers! I may like this one best of all. Does this view show the lifeline on this tree? If not, could we see it?

agreed, this is a great piece. i like the rugged look for this one. the foliage is great. maybe just a reduction of length for the bottom right branch and then some detail wiring in the future. please keep us updated.

Of all the junipers you've recently posted this is by far my favorite. This one will become one of your signature pieces.

With all due respect, NO! That would be defeating the purpose of why I posted it. You can't have it both ways. This is my tree. It is not styled. I have no plan. What I have done is post three pieces of virgin material for those that want to play with a piece of material. Do whatever you wish to do. I might really like something and wish to work towards that goal. Trust me I can make something of each of them without any other point of view, but in light of recent threads on this forum this is a great way to put your money where your mouth is.

If no one is going to post their tree I figured what the heck work on these. Show me what you can do.

I want to know what others would do. This is the only time that I personally invite ideas and things. If I wanted to give you what I see I would have just posted it in show and tell and asked for nothing.

Thats the point deep down in the gut. Everyone either wants to tell you your plan sucks or find its shortcomings, or,... they post their tree and hope like hell that everyone is going to praise their work. Either way most here are never going to follow any others point of view on their tree. After all its their tree.

Al

Two words Al, Beautiful specimen! I have never experienced a tree that "talked to me", until now. To me the tree represents hundreds of years of battling with Mother Nature. The deadwood looks great just the way it is. I would disagree with ChrisMs suggestion of shortening the lower right branch. To me it adds to the appearance of its fight for survival as it reaches out and is IMO an integral part of Mother Natures design. I don't have the experience nor the artistic capabilities to suggest where you should go with this tree but from the heart I would say the lower right branch should continue reaching for life and the rear branch should continue reaching for the sun. A picture of the back side would be nice too as I suspect that is where the live vein is? I'm not into deadwood and conifers too much being as I live in Fl. but I would say the natural deadwood on this tree is beautiful.

I agree sauce. I think the branch out there is going to be just the place that will help keep this trunk in balance. maybe something like this.
