Tho I started out in bonsai 21 years ago I still have no decent trees to my name, but a lot of that has to do with the fact that when I moved locale I couldnt take them with me and had to give them away. So basically 5 years after moving, deciding to have kids etc I decided to start again, from scratch, and thats the way I like it, rather than buying a bonsai.
I enjoy working with plants and have a good horticultural knowledge having grown dates, orange pips and other fruit from seed-(I also have 3 pots of various palm seeds that have recently sprouted ,woo hoo!)
I just get a buzz from it. Unfortunately I dont get a lot of time for this crazily addictive hobby at the moment, but thats in my retirement plan. After all, bonsai is about time!
The missus says 'so it'll be 15 years before you have a 'finished' bonsai?' and I'd say that was optimistic really!
But anyway, horticulurally I'd put myself on a 4, artistically I'm hopefully a 3 but lack imagination, or rather the ability to spot a potential bonsai within a tangled shrub,so realistically I'd say I average a 2! I can spot a good bonsai and hopefully provide a virt or two but dont take me at my word(or picture) as this hobby is very subjective!

I am older weaker so moving trees is a problem many are on turn tables. The children and grand children say I would love a Bonsai for the lounge--bedroom huh a lot of listening there.
I am looking at friends that help. Looks like they will be getting some.
I have offerd some to the National Bonsai and Penjing Collection waiting for a reply.
I am now in the process of talking to the two Bonsai Nursery in Perth as to trading. So it seems I have as they say. Been there done that however I still have a passion for Bonsai may be smaller.
Ever the optamist like Murphy. Pup

The trees I offered to the National Bonsai and Penjing Colletion have been accepted. I am now waiting on the paper work ( I hate paper work ) to arrive so that is two large trees gone only three or four to go.

Congratulations Pup, I too am down sizing and will be shedding some of the larger stock I have had for many years. But am concerned about whose hands I will put them in for the best of care. It's like seeing your kids leave home I guess, not easy.

Mr. pup,

I too wish to offer congratulations...What an honor to have ones trees accepted to be cared for, and viewed by many people, even after you are no longer able to care for them...There is currently an effort to establish a 'state' collection here in Texas, and I would consider it quite an honor to have a tree or two of mine accepted for the display...I would love to see photos of the trees that were accepted if possible...You have created some really nice trees, and I have no doubt the honor was much earned...

Regards
Behr

Must be quite an honour to have your trees accepted for a national collection, means you've really arrived, well done Pup!
