Only 1 year in bonsai and allready entering stage 3 , maybe you'd better get a healt check for your precious money, other than giving it out on 300$ pre-bonsai.

Just kiddin' here offcourse, but in 1 year you can't impossible be in stage 3, at least IMHO. Better take a few classes and attend a bonsaiclub. Buy a few good bonsaibooks like Naka's bonsaibibles. In the mean time, I would suggest that you score some seedlings out of nature, or urban yamadori and keep that alive for a few years. Try on those all the techniques you learn in your classes and trainings. When you are at this point, in maybe 3 years, than you can think about entering stage 3.

Be patient, you have a lot of time. Rushing into stage 3, will only kill your trees and doesn't get you any further, other than trowing away those 300$.
This is in no means a lectior, but some advice of a fellow bonsaiist who believes he's between stage 1 and 2 after 8 years of having trees in a pot, none of those bonsai yet.

With kind regards, Wessel

Pigeonholing never entirely works. I suspect that I'm most properly placed on the cusp between stages two and three, but I see elements of stages one and four in myself, too. Errrrmmmmmm . . .

hmmm thats nice im starting too wounder where aim at now as im starting too look for those three hundred doller trees maybe even more and im selling some off my trees off to my friends and also showing my boss who has a few bonsai how too look after them i think i ts mainly because of bonsaitlak and the people i talk too all the time at the bonsai shops the main thing that i have noticed is that listening and learning form the older brethren of this fine art because with out knowledge and passing of the tourch the art will die off and not spreed out too the masses to enjoy

At last, I'm number one at something!

I keep telling my teenage daughters "someday these trees will all belong to your children"! And the eyes roll..........

as they do bridge....! My kids gaze to heaven when I tell them that my collection will be worth a fortune someday. They obviously don't see them as I do!!!!!! One said, 'Why don't you just grow big trees in the ground, Dad? Then you can sit under them in your old age.'

Who needs kids?

"hmmm thats nice im starting too wounder where aim at now as im starting too look for those three hundred doller trees"

Don't worry too much. This is still pretty much stage one. It's when you start considering how to pay for a $1,000+ tree that you know you're pretty far gone and need some mental help

"My kids gaze to heaven when I tell them that my collection will be worth a fortune someday."

Yeah, my wife didn't buy that line either

"Who needs kids?"
EVERY bonsai person needs kids--big strong kids--to help with heavy-duty bonsai chores like preparing for overwintering--ever try to manuever a 200 lbs bonsai onto the ground alone?-- repotting, weeding and soil mixing.
