Weird Germination Technique? Is This True?

Some told me I should germinate seeds using this technique, I dont know, seems kinda weird... He said I should add two tablespoons of bleech to one gallon of distiled water, and drop all my Trident seeds in the solution for 24 hours, then ever 9 hours check if the seeds are cracking, and when they start to crack put them in a pot, and after another 24 hours, place them in the pot to let them grow?

This is a weird technique? Should I use it on my Trident Maple seeds?

bleach is sometimes used as a fungicide during stratification. Sulfuric acid is also used to help erode the seed coat so that moisture can penetrate into the seed and promote germination.

Take a look at the first couple links here:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&...d+stratify+seed

Anyway you can try this technique with some of your seeds and compare it with the results you get when you don't.

BTW, I don't understand the last steps, which appear to be the same:

>>and when they start to crack put them in a pot,
>>and after another 24 hours,
>>place them in the pot to let them grow?

Regards,

Matt

Question hmmm, interesting

in australia we have the wattle which has a very hard seed coat, sometimes they are put into hot water and other times they are put between two blocks with sand paper attached to cut the seed coat up, i dont know if its worth a try with your seeds

I think it means, after another 24 hours, if they dont crack, just put them in the pot anyways I believe.
