Stratification Question! Urgent!
Ok, i'm ready to put 30 Chinese Elm seeds in the fridge for a 60 - 90 day period. I'm using the paper towel (damp) method (in baggies.) I'm ready to go except for one thing. I need to know if spraying the paper towels with a diluted mixture of copper fungicide will be ok. I;ve read that incase of fungus forming, you should spray some type of fungicide in there. Is copper fungicide ok?

I dont know if chinese elm would be different, but for my Acer palmatum i put them in small ziplock bags (no paper towel) in the lettuce crisper for 90 days, taking them out once a week to slightly shake and change sides. They sprouted shortly after planting.

Well, I put them in there about half an hour ago. Ziplocks (10 seeds in each) + paper towels (moistened with a slight soap solution water.) I will also probably turn weekly. Will I know theyre done by seeing roots, or what? Thanks for commenting. -Evan

If they start sprouting in their bags before the full strat period, you will need to plant them immediately, otherwise they become too weak to continue (saving their energy) during that period.
good luck It took me a few years to figure out the storage time, mold and fungus risks, the right soil temperature, time frame etc. but its not too bad once that is worked out. Some seed are finiky though lol.

I would say no less than 90 days for tree seeds, shrubs, vines etc. are a little less.
Tree seeds need to be tricked in to thinking its a full winter season (3months) for most areas in the south. If you can get your hands on the book (Plant Propagation) from (the American Horticultural Society) its one of the very best books on that subject, in my opinion. It covers from a-z trees, shrubs, veggies, vines etc.
