is the best place to stratify seeds in a 40 degree fridge?

HA! just thought of another question....

When stratifying seed should it be kept moist, and if so should it be in soil, or would paper towels suffice?

It should be kept MOIST, but not WET. Most people have trouble recognizing the difference. I don't like to use paper towels except for the tiniest of seed because it gets moldy very easily. I soak the seed, then drain off all the water possible which only takes a minute or two, then I mix it with an equal volume of DRY vermiculite. The vermiculite will absorb all the surface water, and maintain a reservoir of moisture. I then put the mixture in a ziplock plastic bag. I never have to add more water. Vermiculite doesn't support the growth of mold, although some of the seed itself may get moldy if it isn't viable.
