Re: seed stratification and sucess
I have recently planted seeds for my first time. I planted five different species, appx. 200 seeds total. Only about fifty seeds have sprouted though. Two of the species haven't done anything yet, and they were all planted at the same time. I use two 4' full spectrum flourescent bulbs, and run them for 12 hours a night. I don't know if this helps, but maybe it will.

Re: seed stratification and sucess
Only bottom heat. *It's much more important than light when the seeds are germinating. *They can't see the light anyway, so any benefit they're getting from it at that time is simply the radiant heat from flourescent bulbs, which are probably only 20% efficient anyway (80% heat).
There are some heating mats over at ***CHARLEY*** in their propagation section. * I know.... You're in England! Truthfully folks do a lot more gardening over there, I think, than here, so if you visit Yahoo and type in "Greenhouse Supply England" I think you'll find your rooting hormone and soil heating mats. Regards, Matt
