Rooting In Water

Due to an unforeseeable incident, one of my smaller ficuses had several of its' main branches broken off. I was able to catch them soon afterward. I have not been able to get out recently to purchase some more river sand for the proper medium. I have never done hardwood cuttings in strictly water before, and was wondering if there is anything special that I need to do. Thank you for your help and insight. . .

New mixture

Well I just transferred the branches to a new mixture to 1 part Perlite and 1 part of Sphagnum Moss, with a bit of the rooting formula on the lower portion that's inside the soil mixture. I know that one must usually do the cuttings in the hotter months for a tropical, but it was unforeseeable. It is September, and the highs right now are 65 to 70, with the lows around 50 to 55. Should I go ahead and keep the cuttings inside, or?? Thanks for the help and insight. . .

The mix you are using sounds fine but I think you will need to keep the root zone temperature up around 70-80 degrees for good success.
