We have a grand ancient Gold Cap Oak in our yard (Q. chrysolepis, mountain live oak family). The trunk has a 24' circumference. It is seriously large. It persistently puts out suckers from burl like growths on the base of the trunk a foot or so up from the soil line. We prune the suckers off continually throughout the growing season. Is it possible to saw off one of these growths and root it? They are the size of saucers to the size of large dinner plates.
