Rooter Pots

I keep meaning to ask if anyone has tried this yet.

Hi Bill,

I've currently got 4 rooter pots in action. I'll let you know how they work in the fall.

All I can say so far is that

(1) they're easy to put on.
(2) they seem to work better on vertical layers than horizontal branches, because of the water reservoirs, and
(3) the sharp plastic on the lid can seriously gouge sensitive bark as on young (second-year) maple or beech.

Like Carl said, its pretty easy to get an air layer going vertically, but I have found that most of the layers I want to do on parent trees are horizontal and Im still looking for a much easier way to set up one of these.

they sound like they are fairly small (3"x4"). they could probably make a killing off of bigger ones.

i'm trying one on a weeping birch. it's been on about four weeks, nothing to see yet.
