Propagation of Olives

I have tried air layering (maybe done incorrectly) and I have tried a rooting hormone....can anyone offer some advice as to how they have most successfully propagated olive trees? how long does it take to get roots? also, does anyone have any small olives less than 6" they are wanting to sell? thanks! brent

Hi Brent,

I've had no problem rooting olives (Olea europaea) by just sticking cuttings into a pot of zeolite & peat. I haven't used any rooting hormone, but I do cut all the mature leaves in half. I've been successful with both old and new growth. I also have been keeping them a little more damp than my more establised olive.

Good Luck,

Cody

You can chip part of the trunk from an old olive (without roots, and hormone, put it in humus, an keep well moisted in shade. Best time is on the beginning of the growing season. Germination will start in a month or so.
