Propagation Method For Japanese Maple?
Anyone have an opinion on the most successful or fastest way to propagate japanese maple? We have a very healthy large one (10'-20') in our yard that could be used for layering or cuttings, or I'd also be willing to buy some seeds.
I am leaning toward cuttings or seeds because it seems that it would be easier to try many seeds or cuttings in a large bed or box and have more chances to produce something nice. Also, would this information vary significantly for other maple varieties such as trident or others? |

Juice,
Try them all. Experiment for yourself, it will be a rewarding experience. I've never had a failure on a layer of acer palmatum. If you start late sping you will see roots in 6 weeks. I usually wait until following spring to separate. In the meantime you can be shaping the top to a certain extent. Good luck
