Propagating Prunus Mume

Hi Everyone.....I have a question . What is the best way to start cuttings from a Japanese Flowering Apricot. I tried hard wood cuttings last year(winter of 2003) but none of them survived. Can you do soft wood cuttings in late spring with any success?
Any suggestions or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

1 yr wood cuttings work well for me. There is a copy of International Bonsai discussing mume propagation you might consider checking out. Can't remember which one unfortunately, maybe from 1982?
