Propagating junis from seed

Hi all

I collected some ripe juniper berries from my uni campus- I don't know the species but the berries were large (5-7cm diameter), slightly oval and scaled. I haven't been able to find much information on their cultivation, so I put the berries in the fridge for 2 weeks, took them out today, removed the seeds and put those back in the fridge on some damp paper. Is there any chance of them germinating? I've heard they literally take months or even years to get started. If anyone has any information I'd be really greatful, cheers

Ciao from Spain!

I have several one-seed junipers that I started from seed back in Dec/2001. That is the month I collected them; they received no stratification and I knew they were that year's crop of berries. They sprouted spring of 2002 and have been growing strong since then. The Latin name for this species is Juniperus monosperma. It may well be that certain species are easier to grow from seed than others because I tried alligator juniper (J. deppeana) a time or 2 and they never came up

Success comes with experience, so I'd say keep trying and let us know your results.
