titusblm- isn't it a bit too soon to pot the seedlings? I have 4 leaf sets on one of the seedling and the rest are between 2 and 3 leaf sets. As i am going to put them in the ground after the last frost would it be better to wait.

Rowan57 & Pootsie I would like your option on this.

This is something i have had trouble deciding. Ideally i would pot them into individual pots as soon as they sprout but this isnt always possible/practical. I find however that if you wait a long time then they seem to grow slowly at first. However, i would repot them into indivual pots this spring, i think because the roots maybe come very entangled if left all in one tray for a year or so iit would be advisable to repot, maybe a couple of weeks after they go outside, imk not reallt 100% confident on this so i defer to pootsie or anyone else with a better knowledge than me.

StephNY-If your puting them right into the ground I would wait till spring time. If your keeping them indoors then it's not too soon and will give more time for this years feeding.

That leads me to a question, When I put them outside, do i put them straight in the ground or in training pots into the ground?

What I hear from most is that seedling should be keeped at warmer temps during the frist two years. This would mean trainning pots for two years keeping them outside in summer and bringing them in to a coolhouse for the winter. Though this would matter on how cold it gets in you area. If it stays somewhat warm then I would say it would be safe to put them strait into the ground.
