Maple Air Layer

Hi,

I air layered this cork bark maple earlier in the year due to an inverse taper problem (i think i have a picture somewhere if any 1 wants to see it before), however i am unsure whether to sever the layer now (i can provide over wintering facilities in a cold green house) or wait until spring next year, if so do i need to protect the exposed area of moss at the top of the pot in which the air layer has taken place? using what?. Any advice welcome.

Here, I would just put it in an unheated greenhouse to modulate the nightime temperature a little, but it looks like you're colder. Roots that form from layers in the first few months into the first year are usually pretty sappy, white and brittle.
