Lemon trees

About a month ago I planted some lemon stones in a pot to see if they would germinate and they did. So far so good. Does anyone have any experience with making Bonsai out of lemon trees? Do they require any special care. Guess they'll have to stay indoors for the winter. Me living in Norway with fairly cold winters.

lemons

I have also thought about bonsaing (is this a word?) some fruit tree's but find they have very large leaves and not much detail so if I were to do one I would probably make it a large Bonsai so the leaves were more to scale.

I also go for the large size, or at least medium size, since when they bear fruit, it will be too big for the little branches of a small bonsai...

Hi Tiny-Plant.

Lemon shold germinate quite easily. I got abot 70% of the stones to germinate. No Special tricks or need for stratification as needed by many other seeds. Just clean the stones and sow then in a pot. I had them in normal room temperature (approx. 20C) I think they don't like to be completely covered by the soil, they need some light and air. They could still germinate after 2-3 weeks. I believe the slowest ones took 4-5 weeks. Good luck

citrus does need to be planted right away. If the seeds dry out, the chance of germination is much less.

That seems to be the right method. Take it right out of the fruit and scrub the seeds with a small brush to get all of the pulp off then plant in pots [good soil]. They should sprout in a couple of weeks.

Tiny-Plant,
Have you tried Sami Poikonen's web pages? There's a "walkthrough" for growing bonsai from seed. The document is only available in finnish.
Click here to see the the document itself.
