Laburnum Air-Layering

Hey!!!

I have two laburnum trees in my garden, and was hoping to take off one of the lower branches to bonsai, as I tried from seed but they are REAL slow growers (from what I've experienced).

Has anyone tried to air-layer laburnum? Which technique would be more appropriate...tourniquet or the other one (what is that one called) ? I am inclined to think tourniquet, as the outer bark seems quite thin, but if anyone has actually tried this an information would be good...

I don't think I'm alone as a non-Britons that had never heard of this species before, so my friend google told me all about it:
http://www.the-tree.org.uk/BritishT...y/laburnumc.htm

I suspect that these trees could be propagated a variety of ways, but layering after flowering with the ring method seems like it would work fine for me. The tourniquette method is usually only used with trees that are more sensitive but laburnum seem pretty vigorous from the description I've read.

Good luck finding better help than I can offer
