korean hornbeam airlayer

i airlayered it twice on the same tree in the middle of july. the cambium has been swelling for awhile and now some small roots are finaly shooting out. ill probably cut then in about two weeks maybe? my question is will there be enough time for the new roots to harden off for winter this year, or should i keep them indoors or something?

You should probably overwinter it with protection. Hornbeam roots should be copper colored and wiry when they mature enough to take some handling. You could look into separating the air layer in early spring.

Regards,

Matt

Matt,
You can over winter an air layer? What type of protection would you suggest?
I am in the same boat.
Thanks
