JWP Seedlings
Can JWP seedlings be cut similar to the technique written up for the JBP in the Bonsai Today Pine book? Is that too aggressive for the white pine? The few articles that I have seen seem to have been specific to the black pine.

I don't know that article. Just don't cut the roots and you should do fine.

You must be referring to the technique where once the sprout begins to lignify and change color you cut off the stem above the roots, dip in hormone and insert back in to soil to produce radial roots? I have no idea but why don't you try it and let us know? Follow the instructions as per the JBP, keep notes and hopefully you will have some nice nebari in the future.
Best of luck!

Yes, Graydon, thanks. That is what I was referring to. I should have been more specific. I assume someone has already tried this with the JWP...

I have some literature that says you can do this with JWP. I think it was in International Bonsai but it would take me days to find it. I know of people that have done it with other pines like Lodge Pole Pine.

Yes, it is possible. I did lost some seedling (60
but the growing conditions were not very good (no cover to insure a high humidity).I think that with a higher humidity, the result would have been better. BTW, I am not convinced that this technique is as valuable for JWP as it is for JPB because JPB grow much faster and at the end of the first year the bigger roots are already difficult to work. I have repotted recently some 2 year JWP seedlings and I felt that I had more than enough small roots around the trunk.

Yes it can be done.
But I do find that technique not mandatory. If given enough space and sun, a JBP seedling will grow a number of lateral roots and the tap root will remain short and easily chopable. I believe sam for JWP.

Personally, I would just try half with that method and leave the other half alone so that you have some frame of reference
