Hello Camay,
Yes P. "Nana" is a cultivar. This site gives some info about origins of juniper cultivars. Looks like the original importers to america got it from japan in 1922. http://members.tripod.com/~Hatch_L/junipro2.html Hope this is what you are looking for. ~Ken |

I might not be 100% correct here. I don't think anyone sells P-nana seeds. Not to say they don't grow. I've never seen p-nana but the mature california junipers around here have cone-like, berry-like seeds on them. The problem with selling seeds from a specific cultivar, as I understand it, is that seeds from a plant do not necessarily grow the same genetic traits as the parent plants. Say for example, there is a p-nana farm. Down the road there is a different juniper farm with different species of juniper. Bugs travelling from both juniper farms will cross the genetics. So in order to sell under a specific cultivar name, it would have to be a graft/cutting.(?) Thats why most J-maple cultivars you see at nurserys are grafted trees. I might be slightly incorrect but I think thats the gist of it
