Japanese Hornbeam Airlayer

With all the airlayer fun going around here i thought Id post up the story of one of my airlayers on this hornbeam. The tree has a bad sling-shot thing going on so Im taking take of it before it gets any bigger. Heres the pics starting with the cut and fitting of the container and finally finishing. I use a fresh razor blade to make a clean cut which is very important. Held the container in place with alittle wire and filled it with peat moss. Ive got it wrapped in aluminum foil and now we wait.

Heres an airlayer i took off a red maple in the front yard last year just for fun using the same method. Letting grow freely and will eventually trunk chop it before the fork.

Usually people use Spaghnum moss, why did you choose peat moss instead? If it works better, then that's great because peat moss costs about a tenth as much

Ive never tried sphagnum moss, i just dont like the way it holds together.
Im using good old canadien sphagnum peat moss, its more dense and holds moisture really well, plus ive had good success with it. Also i think peat moss will work in the container better than spahgnum moss, sphagmun moss is easier to use with the plastic wrap method.
