Inexpesive root heaters
I have unusal and interesting hobbies, Reptiles and Bonsai. *Well, I was thinking about a safe heating unit to use under the cuttings that I take to improve rooting. *I looked no further than my utility room and came up with a great solution. *Mylar Heat Tape. *It is a flexible plastic sheet that is primarily used for heating retile enclosures. *Roughly, it is as think as an envelope. *It responds well to a rheostat for temperature control, as well as a simple dimmer switch for a less expensive means of maintaining a specific temperature. *Variable sizes, 3", 4" and 11" each with it's own wattage, 6, 8, and 20 watts per foot respectively. *It is sold is one foot increments and I have used it up to eleven feet long with no variations in heat output. *Plugged in with no rheostat or dimmer, the heat reaches temperatures of about 120 F. *
This is some good stuff for keeping roots warm. *I have attached a link that you can follow to looki at the product. *If you see use, give it a try. *If you see a problem, I would love to hear it. *I had a lot of it laying around and decided to give it a shot, and it is doing a very good job for me.
