How to cut

Hi to all:

I would like to make a quite simple question:

I've mad an air-layer in a ficus carica; made the cut 2 months ago and by now there are a lot of roots around.

The part intended to get is full of leaves; so:

¿ when should i make the cut of the layer ? Now with lot of heat and maybe the plant durmient or wait to September.
¿should i leave the leaves or defoliate the tree to help it not to loose water?
thanks

If the rooots are flexible and "barklike" you can plant em and they will be fine. Its when the roots are brand new that you should wait, new roots are like a wormy white color.

Wait until there is plenty of brown roots. These will be able to grow the white feeder roots your tree needs. Then plant it in an oversized container with a well draining soil without disturbing the new roots.

you couldn't hurt the tree by waiting longer especially with the weather that you have now, so just keep the layer where it is and chop it only if you are absolutely sure it will survive, it would be a waste of time and energy to do this if the top just ends up dying
