YES!!!!!!!!!

After Thirteen days I have seen the first signs of germination!!!!!!

I was starting to worry I had made a mistake somewhere in my treatment of the seeds prior to planting.

Once there is more to see I'll add some photos.

I guess, there's bored and there's B-O-R-E-D. Watching seeds sprout is another variation of watching grass grow, then getting excited about mowing it ;-) In the case of seeds, though, you wan't have to mow for a decade...

Make sure what you're seeing are the seeds you planted and not weeds; even if they are weeds be patient until the real deal comes up You don't know how many times I've been fooled by weeds, only to have what I planted sprout just about when I figure out what's been growing was a weed

Growing from seed is all about patience. When you get tired of waiting for your seedings to become bonsai, get youself one that is much further along from a nursery, but still keep the seedling. Then when you finally spot one that can be collected, try that too. The point is, when you find a species that you like to work with, REALLY WORK WITH IT. Then let us know something about that tree you found out that really might contribute to the greater good of all

I've got four seeds that have germinated. They are not weeds. One still had the seed coat on top of it when I pushed through the soil.

I've been keeping them moist, I'm waiting for the true leaves to emerge, maybe in a another couple weeks. Once that happens I'll be able to transplant them. Until then, keep your fingers crossed.

transplanted seedlings

My seedlings have been growing in a seedling tray for a full month since germination. They grew their first true leaves so i decided to transplant them.

I gently teased them out of the soil. i did not see much of a taproot so i left the roots undisturbed. They were potted in two inch pots in a seedling mix (pearlite/ sphagnum peat moss). I then bagged them into ziplocks to maintain the humidity while they are recovering. I also moved them from the greenhouse into the main house so they will get less direct light and not overheat.

It is still too early to put them outside because there is still frost danger.

Hopefully they will take off in their new homes
