Fire thorn

Do I harvest the seeds when red or do I cut off the fruit when it is red to dry then take the seeds?

Re: Fire thorn

Stem cuttings or division are the most common ways to propagate pyracantha. *

To answer your question, however; I almost had to do the unthinkable, and refer you to the Martha Stewart site, where there was a technique for separating pyracantha seeds from the berry using a blender. *However Martha had her site redesigned, and that link no longer exists. *So I am saved.

Here's some other info

http://www.desert-tropicals.com/Plants/Rosaceae/Pyracantha_coccinea.html

Please see also the notes on Fire Blight which can affect pyracantha, esp. damaged plants or seedlings. *I have lost some wonderful stock to this:

Re: Fire thorn

To the blender, add one cup of firethorn berries, they add a festive touch to your holiday table. Pulse one or two times, I think the red juice reminds me of fall in the Catskills... What the hell am I talking about.. I sound just like Marthe Stew... ar .. t zzzzzzzzzzzz(al, al,, AL wake up its time to go to bed) whew I fell asleep in front of the computer. Hope I didn't say anything stupid
