Ficus nerifolia Air Layer

I made an Air layer in the month of July on my Ficus nerifolia that was outdoor.
Now it's been inside since 3 weeks but with the air layer cup still attach. I have check and the layer is successfull, roots have grown. Now my question is :

Should I separate the layer in winter while inside or wait till spring-summer the next year while the tree will be outside and in a more growth active period ?

Thanks,
Patrick

If it were me, I think I would wait. Those roots would be pretty immature after just a couple months and I like to see them a little more lignified before I mess with them. The exception, ordinarily, would be if the layer was going to be exposed to cool temperatures; but since the parent plant is tropical, I'd expect you to be protecting it from frost, too.

Anyway, that's my take.

Regards,

Matt

Yes. The ficus will be indoor for all winter, but growth is real slow in the house.

Camay,
That is so interesting. Its like you are getting a very short period of dormancy and a reflush of growth in a matter of weeks.

If that is so, then it seems to me the timing would be like this.

Take tree outside
Leaves drop
Wait
Buds swell
Separate layer
repot
New leaves appear
Happily ever after

If I remeber correctly, other's who live in the north-east part of the continent have experience leaves drop and re growth when taking their ficus outside.

From what I heard about ficus, they do this everytime (almost) they change places. From outside to inside, from inside to outside,...

But I must say that I have a neriifolia and it doesn't lose that much leaves when it change position. My girlfriend's ones always do though.

WELL, we live together for 18 years now with 2 kids, a mortgage, a cat, ... ,

So I guess one could say that we are 'relatively' married
