Seedling Crepe Myrtle and Liquid Amber seeds

Hello.

I have recently purchased some 'Lagerstroemia indica' and 'LIQUIDAMBAR STYRACIFLUA' seeds. I am located in Eastern Australia, it is currently autumn but we are still getting regular temperates of 24degrees celcius and the lowest being about 18, in F this is 75F - 64F. Also, if it helps to further understand the current climate here, none of my deciduous bonsai have dropped any leaves yet. The colours of some maples are starting to become a few shades duller but nothing major yet.

I also have a small greenhouse with seed trays inside, it has adjustable humidity on the top and left and right side. I have successfully got Chinese Elm seeds to take in the last two weeks.

In regards to the crepe myrtle and liquidamber seeds, I intend to buy seed raising mix to help them take. In regards to preparing these seeds what do I need to do? Am i required to soak them in water? etc.
I have read many different articles and have a basic idea of what to do, but there is nothing better than receiving first hand advice that i know is feesable and will work.

Any help that can be offered is greatly appreciated. I am receiving about 40 of each seed so i am not going to use then all now, but i would like to try a few now.

Regards
Mick

I don't know about Crepe Myrtle, but have propagated Liquidamber from seed.
I waited until spring, and sowed them in 1/2 sharp sand and peat moss. About 10mm below the surface.
I had a sucess rate of 60% or so.

The seeds were obtained direct from the many trees around home when the seed pods ripen. ( which will be soon).

Thank you for that, i purchased mine off ebay today from a user who had sold over 10k seeds as i like to check feedback and all that. I think the Crepes are just plant and water but i will continue looking into it.
Thanks for the advice on the liquidambers!

Mick

Growing crape myrtles from seed is a pretty brain-dead operation. They are pretty easy to grow from seed. A decently open mix (as stated above possibly) and dont let them get completely dry and you'll get a healthy percentage of seedlings.

I did 125 crepe myrtles last year from seed. Just stuck em in some seed starter in the spring and watered as needed. by the end of fall they were all around 12" tall.
