Crazy Dawn Redwood seedling

I ordered a dawn redwood yearling from a seller on ebay. When I received the package, the tree was snapped in half about mid way up the stem, and the top half's foliage was wilted. Needless to say I was dissatisfied. I emailed the seller about the problem and basically said tough luck. So back to the seedling. I chopped the top half off and planted the seedling. The top parts foliage was wilted, but the stem still looked full of life. I went ahead and put some rooting horomone on this fella and stuck it in my humidity dome. Well about 4 weeks later and I see some tiny sprouts coming where the last set of leaves died. Looks like the broken tree might not have been so bad, and if this thing roots well, I will have (2) trees for the price of one.

Me thinks you owe the seller, if not the price of another tree, at least an apology for any negative feedback you may have dropped on him...

Don't you just love it when you can snatch your feet from the jaws of some one else's victory.

All the best

I WAS going to leave poor feedback, but decided not to until I was sure the tree would survive, or atleast if it died, it would certainly be my fault. So, he will get nuetral or good feedback score. Nuetral possible because he shipped it loose in a box, and I feel it is the sellers obligation to shit an item propoerly.

I prefer the T myself, an obvious Freudian error and deservedly so because that is exactly how he got the tree to you. A one year old seedling should not be a problem to ship in one piece for anyone willing to take a modicum of effort to do so.

That doesn't surprise me. These trees are incredibly hearty. Last year we had a late cold snap and my japanese maples and dawn redwood lost most of their foliage (they both tend to bud out earlier than other trees). The redwood sprouted out a new crop of needles much sooner than the maples got their leaves back.

I would have to side with with Heath's Wood here and say that a broke one year old seedling was sent by an ebay vendor who was unconcerned with the tree's well being.
